1000 km off the west coast of South America, in the middle of the Pacific Ocean, lies the Galapagos archipelago. San Cristobal Island is located in close proximity to the world-famous nature reserves of the Galapagos Islands.
In 1875, Don Miguel J. Cobos, a Spaniard, first cultivated coffee on this fertile volcanic island. The 400-hectare Hacienda El Cafetal is the prime address on San Cristobal and guarantees only the highest quality.
Grown at 1200 m on the sheltered slopes of the island's largest volcano, this unique coffee thrives in a completely intact, biologically natural climate. Optimal water supply from El Junco Lake on the volcanic cone ensures ideal and natural irrigation of the lush flora and coffee plantations year-round.
All Galapagos Islands, including San Cristobal, have been declared nature reserves by UNESCO, which is why pesticides and other chemical fertilizers for agriculture are strictly prohibited under penalty of severe punishment. Like only the most expensive plantation coffees from the Caribbean and Hawaii, this "Islandcoffee" also has its own typical style.
